The Lawrence County Big Blue Bin Recycling Program was established in 2004 as a way to answer residents’ request for recycling and provide a free and convenient way to provide recycling services for all Lawrence County Residents.

Residents using the program recycle approximately 1,400 tons, or 2,800,000 pounds, of material annually.

Lawrence County’s program was recognized with a Waste Watchers Award in 2007.  Because of its overall efficiency it is being copied by other communities in Pennsylvania.

The program results in a direct savings to the community through avoided disposal costs.  To put this into perspective, 1,400 tons of recyclables would fill about 70,000 City of New Castle blue bags.  At a cost of $1.80 per bag, the savings amounts to more than $125,000 annually.

Most sites are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Check the list of recycling sites for hours, addresses, and special notes.
